Head out on this 8.7-km out-and-back trail near Gravenhurst, Ontario. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 57 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and mountain biking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Devil’s Gap navigates between marshes and ponds and is occasionally shared with snowmobiles/ohvs. Trailhead is located on Muriel Crescent. It ends at the end of Clear Lake Road. Expect mud and bugs and come equipped. This double track route features rock faces along the way that offer great views of the marshes.
Local folklore has it that a farmer who was traveling the old colonization road with a wagon & a team of oxen became stuck. After many attempts to free the wagon the farmer gave up and went for help. When he returned, the wagon & oxen had disappeared without a trace. The gap in the rock has since been known as the Devil’s Gap. Great photo opportunities include: beaver dams, expanses of Canadian Shield, vast marshland and open meadows.
